Alongside India creates a history by heading UNSC chaired by an Indian PM for the first time, and had open debate on Maritime security.

USA and China clash over the South China sea at high-level UN meeting chaired by India. Two presidents, One PM and 10 ministers joined PM Modi on this important occasion.

This was so surprising for China, that Putin President of Russia also joined the meeting, according to reports Putin from Two decades joined only two meeting, so this was Putin third meeting, which means Russia is in India’s support, but China send his lower level deputy minister of UN council representative, was because since India was heading the meeting.

Debate on “Enhancing Maritime Security A Case for International Cooperation’.

This was after the 2 years that any country led any Open debate over the Maritime security.

The topic discussed were saving of ships from the Pirates of Somalia, or any climate disaster or any environmental damage.

USA and China started Arguing over The South China Sea, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke off”some of the critical areas we see Maritime rules and principal under threat.”

The reason why USA is so much concerned about South China sea, because South China sea represents freedom of transmission of Ships, if in future South China sea is in full control of China then the movement of ships along South China sea is being monitored and controlled by Chinese government.

China responded, that the Security Council is not the right place to discuss the issue of South China sea and blames USA, which creates problems where they go, and USA itself don’t follow United Nation’s Conventions on the law of the sea.

India responded that freedom of navigation is the most important concern, and every country should support United Nations Convention on the law of the sea.

India had introduced SAGAR(Security and Growth For All in the Region) at United Nation Security Council.

The five major points put forth by the honorable Prime Minister in UNSC are

  1. Free Maritime trade.
  2. Following international laws and arbitration.
  3. Dealing with Maritime threat together.
  4. Sustainable use of maritime resources and environment.
  5. Responsible Maritime connectivity.

India will organize more meetings during its presidency on peacekeeping and counter terrorism, set its permanent representative to UN, ambassador Trimurti.
